Bathroom renovations are one of those jobs where I'd be particularly careful about choosing the cheapest quote.
You're dealing with plumbing, waterproofing, electrics, ventilation, tiling and expensive fittings in a relatively small space. A bathroom that looks great on completion isn't much use if problems start appearing six months later.
I've looked through the London market and narrowed it down to seven companies I'd consider. Some are bathroom specialists, while others make more sense when the bathroom is part of a larger renovation.

If I wanted a company focused specifically on bathrooms, I'd start by looking at London Bathroom Installations.
There's an advantage to using a specialist. Bathrooms involve several trades working in a very confined space, and a company dealing with these projects every day should understand the order everything needs to happen in.
I'd consider them for a straightforward complete bathroom replacement where I didn't need wider renovation work elsewhere in the property.
Beams would be one of my strongest choices for a proper bathroom renovation rather than simply replacing an existing suite.
The main attraction for me is the design and planning that happens before construction.
Beams can help with the bathroom layout, fixtures, tiles, lighting, storage and overall design before connecting the project with vetted builders for construction.
That's useful because bathrooms are deceptively complicated.
A typical project can involve plumbing, electrics, waterproofing, ventilation, tiling, decorating and joinery. If you're changing the layout, things get more complicated again.
I also like the fact that Beams isn't simply a bathroom showroom. The wider renovation capability matters if walls, plumbing or other parts of the property need changing.
I'd be less likely to use Beams for a very cheap bathroom refresh where everything is staying in exactly the same position. If the job is essentially swapping a bath, toilet and basin, a good independent bathroom fitter may be the more economical route.
For a more substantial bathroom renovation where I'd want help with the design as well as the build, Beams would be near the top of my list.
Huntsmore would interest me at the higher end of the market.
Its wider focus includes interior architecture, interior design and renovation, so I'd consider it where the bathroom needs to work as part of a carefully designed premium interior.
Think bespoke vanity units, high-end stone, detailed lighting and a bathroom that feels like part of the architecture rather than a collection of products from a showroom.
For an ordinary bathroom replacement it could be more than you need. For a luxury London property, it's a much more natural fit.
I wouldn't necessarily choose houseUP because I wanted to renovate one small bathroom.
I'd choose them if the bathroom was one part of a much bigger project.
houseUP works on substantial London house refurbishments and reconfigurations. If you're renovating a kitchen, two bathrooms, flooring and the wider interior together, having the bathrooms delivered within the same project can make considerably more sense.
Not everybody needs interior designers and a large renovation company.
If I knew roughly what bathroom I wanted and mainly needed an experienced team to remove the old one and install the replacement, I'd look closely at dedicated bathroom fitters.
This can be a simpler route when the room isn't being fundamentally redesigned.
Proficiency makes more sense when there's significant construction happening around the bathroom.
The company works across residential renovation, extensions, loft conversions and basements.
If I was completely remodelling a London property and creating new bathrooms as part of that work, I'd consider Proficiency rather than appointing a separate bathroom company.
Refresh Renovations takes a project-management-led approach.
That can appeal if you don't want to personally coordinate designers, suppliers and different trades.
I'd consider Refresh where the bathroom was part of a broader renovation and having one person overseeing the process was particularly important to me.
I'd want to see bathrooms similar to the one I was actually planning, not simply a gallery containing the company's ten best projects.
I'd also want the quotation to make it extremely clear what's included.
If it was my bathroom and I was simply replacing an existing suite without moving anything, I'd probably start with a specialist fitter.
If I was spending more money and wanted to rethink the room properly, I'd speak to Beams. The combination of design, material selection and the wider renovation process makes more sense once the project becomes more ambitious.
And for a genuinely high-end property where the bathroom is being designed alongside the rest of the interior, I'd add Huntsmore to the shortlist.
